Protecting the child during pregnancy

Protecting the child to be born is a matter of justice and rights of the child. It is so pleasant, for a woman to carry a baby and especially to give birth to a beautiful child! This miracle the life should not let us forget that a baby is a child with rights. Respecting this right starts with the prevention of all transmissible diseases from the mother to the child.

Nowadays, most transmissible diseases to the foetus have prevention techniques. To name a few, these are: rubella, measles, tetanus, hepatitis B for which an immunized or vaccinated mother will transmit her protection to her baby for the first months of his life.

Syphilis and toxoplasmose for which testing is necessary at the beginning of pregnancy, because in the event of a sick mother, an treatment well suited to the mother will directly protects the child.

HIV/AIDS, the present pandemia, fatal to babies, must absolutely be avoided for all children to be born. That require a systematic blod sampling of the pregnant women; and for the HIV positive women, the prescription of anti-retroviruses drugs during pregnancy and childbirth. In this case, childbirth requires special medical procedure.

Nicotinism of the pregnant woman must be avoided, or reduced to a minimum, in any case. Nicotinism is responsible for premature births, of the birth of fragile babies with low weight, who are exposed to sudden death.

Once the baby is born, it must be protected as of the first weeks, from certain diseases which could kill it or leave him with serious after-effects. This protection is done through vaccination over simple programs, available in all child care centers: Vaccination against tuberculosis, hepatitis B, measles, poliomyelitis, tetanus and other meningitides.

All these measures are only minimal precautions to be taken, because after all, a baby must be loved; from this immense and infinite love will follow those other important attentions so important to his healthy development. It is from the sum of all these little things that every tiny human being can say that his or her mother is "the best mom in the world".
